The James M. Van Lanen Distinguished Service Award

Background

James M. Van Lanen (1934-1974) was the Director of Research at Hiram Walk & Sons (Peoria, IL) and a pioneer in fermentation technology. He dedicated his service to the ACS Division of Microbial and Biochemical Technology. This nominated award recognizes an individual for outstanding contributions to the ACS Division of Biochemical Technology through committed and sustained service since 1985.

At the ACS annual meeting for which BIOT chooses to program, an award of a commemorative plaque will be made on behalf of the Division by the Division Executive Committee. The award will be presented to the recipient at the conference.

Nomination

All nominations are conducted by self-nomination. Nominations are judged based on the impact on the development of the Division through service. Service may include exceptional leadership activities, significant new program or initiative development, significant existing program or initiative enhancement, extensive and sustained operational effort, exceptional technical program organization and/or other impactful activities on behalf of the Division.
