B&B: D.I.C Wang Award

Background

Daniel I.C. Wang (1936 – 2000) was an Insitute Professor at MIT and a leader in developing the biotechnology industry and biochemical engineering education for over five decades. He exemplified innovative problem-solving through fundamental engineering principles and bridging research and commercialization. This award is a tribute to his contributions and leadership in defining the field of biochemical engineering.

The B&B Daniel I.C. Wang Award was initiated in 2008 to honor a younger member of our dynamic community and is presented annually at the National ACS Meeting at a session of the BIOT. Please click here for more information

Eligibility

  • Published in Biotechnology and Bioengineering in the last 3 years
  • 35 years old or younger (as of December 31, 2025), or under 8 years from granting of the Ph.D. degree
  • Has shown a sustained commitment to the journal B&B and the community it serves
  • Winner is expected to attend ACS-BIOT to receive their award and present a lecture

Nomination Process
The nomination package should include two nomination letters explaining how the candidate meets the above criteria, a CV of the candidate and a separate page listing the following information:

Nominations must be submitted electronically (including a PDF of the signed nomination letter) to biotechbioeng@wiley.com. Nomination packages remain active for two years, providing all eligibility requirements are met.

Award Ceremony
The winner will receive the award, which consists of a plaque and an honorarium, before the Wang Award lecture.
